Using encrypt.sh for Salesforce Data Loader on the Mac or Linux/Unix

java -cp DataLoader.jar com.salesforce.dataloader.security.EncryptionUtil -g SOMEGARBAGESTRINGFOLLOWS
copy that value to key.txt
java -cp DataLoader.jar com.salesforce.dataloader.security.EncryptionUtil -e “MYPASSWORD” “/full/path/to/key.txt”
copy that value to process-config.xml’s sfdc.password
Add to process-config.xml

Alternately, add sfdc.password, sfdc.username and process.encryptionKeyFile to config.properties (in the same directory).

Post-Birthday update:

New job (for quite a while now)
Moved to Rocklin (near Sacramento)
Sold my STI and am commuting the 1.25 miles to work by bicycle (need to figure out what to do about the rain)
We’re down to one car for the family (which sounds more impressive than it is, we have a lot of family/friends in the area)
Now that we have one car, we’re renting a house with a three car garage… go figure

If you’re not listening to Pandora (assuming you’re in the US) then you should be. It is awesome! There is a free iPhone application and PandoraBoy for your Mac (so the remote works).

On the Rain-Slick Precipice of Darkness: Episode 2 is now available from Greenhouse. If you’re a Penny-Arcade fan then you’ve probably already played Episode 1. If not, check them both out… I’ll be playing thru Episode 2 this week.

Smash and grab…

A lovely sight greeted my wife as she returned to our car at Fort Funston. Some wonderful human being had smashed our rear quarter window (the one with the antenna in it) and stolen… almost nothing. They stole a roadside assistance kit (basically jumper cables and some other stuff, I’ve never opened it) and our “earthquake bag”, which contained water, some food and some tools. The did not steal the iPod out of the glovebox or anything else out of the trunk.

$450 later we have a new window. Any thieves reading this, please note, the least expensive windows on a car are almost always the ones that roll down! This is compared to the most expensive ones that have tint and/or wires in them (which is all the other ones on the Forester).

BTW – AA Willian’s Auto Glass in Mountain View (650-937-0272) did a great job and had it fixed the morning after it was broken (at my office).

Why can’t I get to Hawaii?

Last year we were planning to go to Hawaii in February, but some serious family medical stuff resulted in that trip being cancelled.

This year we’re planning to go to Hawaii at the end of April. Due to pricing, logistics and some flight vouchers we were booked on Aloha Airlines for the outbound leg and Southwest (operating via ATA) for the return trip. (You can probably see where this is going.)

First, Aloha discontinued operations. This move trapped my Stepdad in Hawaii last week and necessitated the purchase of a super-full-fare return ticket to get him home. It also required finding alternative transport on another carrier for our end of April trip. We booked a one way flight to Honolulu on Hawaiian Airlines for approximately $200 more than our previous tickets, and Wells Fargo refunded the full amount of my previous tickets on Aloha. So we’re all set…

Next, ATA discontinued operations. I don’t know what Southwest intends to do about this yet, but we bought the tickets using vouchers, so they’ll probably issue more vouchers. Having little faith in this, I decided to try booking a different one-way return leg. Suffice to say that this would have been expensive. Lo and behold, United now had rewards travel available on the days we were flying, so for the low low price of $20 and 70k air miles we now have round trip tickets to Hawaii. Yeah!

If anything else goes wrong with this trip I’m staying home. I know when to take a hint…

18 Week-old Pup

Well, Prima is 18 weeks old now, and got her last major vaccination shot this morning. She has been going to Puppy Class, Puppy Socials, on walks around the neighborhood and meeting lots of people, dogs, kids… and even some cats. Her favorite activities at this point are sleeping in the sun (it completely hypnotizes her) and eating leaves when our attention wanders for even a second on her walks. We’re looking forward to taking her to the beach once the last vaccination has had a chance to take effect.
Oh yeah, she likes playing fetch too…

New pup

We brought a new dog into our lives about a week ago (our 10 1/2 yr old greyhound, Nicole, passed away on August 17th of last year). The pup’s name is Prima and she’s an 11 week old whippet.

This is the first puppy for either of us. We both had dogs that had puppies when we were kids, but weren’t really responsible for their care in any meaningful way. It’s a lot of work
